Summer is Coming!

Friday, March 20th, 2015

The 2015 Season is upon us!  On March 30th we open our doors for the season with two back to back Spring Break Surf Camps!  These camps will run Monday through Friday from 10-noon.  We provide everything including wetsuits!   Our Spring Break Surf Camps are a great way to get a jump start on summer.  We still have a few slots available so register now for this awesome surf camp.

On April 13th, our Charity Surf Camp Crew leaves for Kochi, India to bring the orphan girls of Homes of Hope on a miracle surfing trip to Varkala Beach.  10 days of surfing, swimming, and great times for these girls who have had tragic lives, for once they get to have a childhood experience and memory.  We return on April 25th and then it’s ON!

Our Wilmington, NC private lessons and surf camps will then be getting underway.  We are expecting record numbers this year as registrations have been pouring in already.  Our Cape Fear area programs look to be packed at all our locations, Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Beach and Oak Island.  Our Wrightsville Beach Surf Program will start the 1st of June and run through the last day in August. Our Wrightsville Beach location offers 5 day surf camps and private lessons.  Our Topsail Beach and Oak Island Surf Clinics will run from mid June to Mid August and offer 1 day and 3 day surf camps.  Although our Topsail and Oak Islands Lessons and Camps don’t usually fill up until the last minute, our Wrightsville Beach Surf Program does.  Get your registrations in early so you don’t miss out on  the Wilmington Area’s absolute best surf school program.  There really is no other choice when it comes to surf camps and surf lessons than Indo Jax Surf School.  Our attention to safety, professionalism and detail is unmatched by any other local surf school.  Our staff is highly skilled, trained and certified and is unparalleled by the other surf programs in town.  We put our heart and soul into our surf teaching program, and we hear it all the time, “Indo Jax is far superior to the others!”

Finally, our outreach surf program, Indo Jax Surf Charities, WOW, what can be said.  This program is probably the finest there ever has been in the entire world.  This year’s schedule is going to be the greatest charity surf camp schedule anyone has ever seen.  With 12-15 Week Long Charity Surf Camps for medically fragile, at risk and special needs youth and young adults, we are the premier outreach surf program in the world, no doubt about it.  No other surf program is capable of doing what we at Indo Jax can do.  We serve the widest variety of special needs participants in the surf.  Our camps are 3-5 days long giving participants the chance to really experience the exhilaration and uplifting qualities of the ocean and learning to surf.  Our numbers are growing exponentially and we allow siblings to participate side by side with their brothers and sisters.  An experience that is unmatched anywhere for these kids and young adults!  Every penny we raise goes to serving more and more children!   Our schedule is set and posted so please visit to register for any of our surf camps, surf lessons, surf clinics, or outreach surf camps that suit you.  There really is no other choice than Indo Jax!TedxUTK-5dsc_0337_edit_hearing_im2013_day3DSC_0072_edit

India Surf Safari 4, Varkala Here We Come!

Friday, April 12th, 2013

IMG_20130411_145206We are just a week away from embarking on our 4th trip to India to serve orphan girls.  The journey we have experienced in building this program has been one of the most wonderful in my life.  It has been filled with adventure, trials, failures and massive success.  Dedication, determination and an absolute refusal to quit have marked our attitude throughout this journey and are the reasons we are still going back.

When we started this program, the first year was brutal.  Neither the instructors nor the organization I was with at the time have ventured back.  All gave up.  Myself and Paul Wilkes were determined to not give up.  I knew what we offer these girls was important to them and I didn’t want to ever give up on them.  Once I met Jeff Murtha, he had the same resolve as Paul and  I did and we kept the program alive and growing.  The work it takes to pull this off is mind boggling…fundraising, equipment inventory, donations of needed supplies, logistics.  It’s unbelievable but we are headed into our 4th year and serving 5 times the number of girls on two coastlines out of 4 different orphanages.  Not bad for a program we almost didn’t believe was even possible.  Programs like ours come and go, they die off in a year, like the instructors I took the first year.  Indo Jax though has heart!  We are dedicated, determined and we absolutely refuse to give up on these girls.

Filming for the story about the India adventure started yesterday.  We’re planning an incredible documentary about the history of the India Surf Safari!  I think it’s going to be fantastic.  Matt Batchelor the director started his interviews with Jeff, Paul and I.  We’ll have  a showing sometime in June.

On Tuesday April 16th there will be a bon voyage party at all three Ruby Tuesday Restaurants in Wilmington.  We will receive 20% of the sales.  This will be one of our last Western Meals in awhile too!  Please come out and celebrate with us Tuesday at Ruby Tuesday!
