Reunion Surf Day a Huge Success

Friday, October 24th, 2014

After an incredible 2014 Summer Surf Season for Indo Jax Surf School and Charities, we decided to hold a Reunion Surf Day on October 4th at our location in Wrightsville Beach NC.  It was a roaring success.  With perfect ocean conditions, warm air and water and over 60 of our outreach surf camp participants, WE RIPPED!  Just about all of our 30+ instructors and another 20 volunteers were on hand, it was a day for the ages.  It was also a day we celebrated a new two year partnership with United Health Care and their Do Good, Live Well Program.

2014 has been our best year by far, no doubt about it.  Our morning and half day surf camps were maxed out all summer, and our charity surf camps grew to numbers we never thought possible.  Our Wrightsville Beach, Topsail Island and Oak Island Programs all expanded.   Our goal is, and always has been, to serve as many children as possible, this year exemplified why Indo Jax Surf School and Indo Jax Surf Charities are the premier “Learn to Surf ” Programs in the Cape Fear Region, maybe worldwide.

So many great moments from 2014…Sponsorship from the Helen Keller Foundation, 5th Annual Homes of Hope Surf Camp for orphan girls in India, 4th annual Surf Camp for the University of Tennessee Swim Team,, Bound By Sea purchased by a distributor and will be on Net Flix by the holidays, our visually impaired surf camp video made it into Cucalorus Film Festival 2014, receiving the Razor Walker Award and E-Town Awards, revitalizing our Wounded Warrior Program so more wounded vets can participate.  It was truly an inspirational and incredible summer.   We received so many new Camp Sponsorships that helped us crank out an unbelievable season, sponsorships from Ogden Car Wash, Northstar Group, Trot Nixon and Family,  Synergy Medical,  Alerttile, George C Foundation, Hope From Helen, Grass Monkey Holdings, First Bank and The Eye Care Center.  Our partnerships with Homes of Hope, Surfers Healing, Mauli Ola, Boys and Girls Club, Boys and Girls Home of Waccammaw, and other non profits grew ever stronger.  The Wrightsville Beach Wahine Surf Contest was another huge success with over 100 girls participating.  We are stoked to head into 2015 and keep all this going!  The biggest news of all though, was the new sponsorship from United Health Care.  The grant we received from them will ensure we can continue to grow, continue to use the best equipment, continue to hire the best staff, and continue empowering medically fragile, special needs and at risk youth through our amazing surf program. Thank you all for your support in 2014!

And it’s not over!  The Indo Jax Surf Team program is posting the biggest numbers we’ve ever seen with over 20 kids joining us every Friday to take their surfing to the next level.  These kids are ripping, even when it’s big, competing in contests, and volunteering for our charity surf camps and clinics.  The Fall Surf Team Program culminates with a trip to Nicaragua.  With a full house of 11 surfers and their families, we will be whooping in up at Rancho Santana to experience some exotic waves in warm water this November.

See you in the water!

Thanksgiving 2013

Tuesday, December 3rd, 2013

I love Thanksgiving!  It is such a great time to reflect and focus on all the things we have.  It’s also a time to consciously not let all the negative stuff take up too much time in our heads.   It’s family time and nothing is better than that.  It always makes me realize that close friends and family are all that really matter.

Personally I am thankful for so many things.  Our kids are healthy and happy and doing  well in school, sports and music.  My wife and I are doing well and enjoying lots of family time these days. We feel totally blessed for all that we have.

At Indo Jax we are also thankful for so many things.  We love living in Wilmington NC where the Cape Fear Region beaches are so beautiful. We get to enjoy fantastic surf conditions the year round.   Summer here is awesome but so is the winter!  The crowds have gone, and  life returns to a nice slow but steady pace.

We are also thankful for the continuing success of our surf school.  Sure we’ve had some bumps in the road, but overall we have become the premier surf school in the area, and the locals choice.  We are also proud of the fact that we have earned a solid reputation in the area for helping people and other businesses.  Through our charity surf camps and sponsorship programs we help many.  We love being a positive business force in the area.  The other day a gentleman told me he was constantly hearing what a great organization we were, and that our reputation in the area is incredible.  It is always nice to hear that we are a valued business member of the Wilmington Community.

We are thankful too for all the people who have helped us along the way.  No doubt, that without customers, donors, and supporters we would not have made it this far.  So thank you!

We at Indo Jax Surf School and Charities would like to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays.  We hope you reflect on all the great things you have!

We hope to see you Friday night at the Hope From Helen fundraiser at the Blockade Runner.

Gabby exhausted in India

Gabby exhausted in India

By now many of you have seen the FB page for Bound By Sea and some of you may have seen the web-site and trailer.  If you haven’t seen them you can check them out by going to www.boundbysea.com  There you can see the extended preview, meet the director and videographer and learn a little about the making of this documentary.  I am still in shock that we were able to, not just surf, but put on charitable surf camps in all 4 Oceans of the world.  I’m more shocked that my 9 year old daughter was able to enjoy this experience with me.  Now that it’s over I reflect on our travels, experiences, and photos.  No doubt this year took a physical toll on all of us, especially Gabby, but she talks about how much fun she had a long the way.  I am looking forward to seeing her in the documentary.  She has been a great addition to the charity we do, and she shined as we worked with disadvantaged children throughout the world.  I can’t wait to see her shining and inspiring in Bound By Sea.

Gabby and I have talked at length about the upcoming year.  Both of us look forward to India in April, but also look forward to a slower pace, spending more time at home and with the family.  We both are anxious to work hard here at home at our surf camps in Wrightsville Beach, Oak Island, Carolina Beach and Topsail Island.  We look forward to the surf lessons right here at the Surf Club at Access #10.  We look forward to the smiling faces of the children learning to surf for the first time.  We look forward to showing those kids in our charity surf camps that not only can they surf, they can do anything!  Traveling is great, Gabby and I really enjoyed that time together on the road, but being at home is great too!

Here’s to an Indo Jax summer right here at home.

Hope From Helen

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012

This coming Friday, December 7th is the Annual Hope From Helen Silent Auction.  This is one of the coolest events of the year here in Wrightsville Beach.  Run by Tony Butler of WBLivesurf.com and Sweetwater, Tony puts together one of the biggest fundraiser/silent auctions I’ve ever seen.  This event raises thousands for tons of local charities.  Indo Jax Surf Charities has been the beneficiary of this auction with significant donations from the event each year.  The money we have received has gone directly to our charity surf camp program right here in Wrightsville Beach and to our India Surf Safari program in the Indian Ocean.  We are honored to be one of the charities that has benefited  from this event in the past and we thank Tony from the bottom of our hearts.

Additionally Indo Jax Surf School is a donor to the event.  We have donated thousands of dollars worth of surf lessons, surf camps and swag to the event.  This year we are donating a week long half day surf camp, skate deck, and some shirts to the event.  It is family friendly with good music and good food.  It starts this Friday at 6 pm at The Blackade Runner in Wrightsville Beach.

We hope to see you there!
