Drainage Ditches

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Drainage Ditches often lead directly into a body of water or our sewer systems.  Today I focused my cleaning on a drainage ditch that led towards a small lake.  I was able to fill one bag completely full with fast food papers and cups.  Coming soon I will post photos of these areas that I am cleaning and photos of the trash that has been collected and disposed of correctly.  Please remember to take caution when picking up foreign objects.  Wear protective rubber gloves when necessary and never pick anything up that you can not identify as being safe.  Thanks again and keep up the good work!

Glass Glass and more Glass

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Allright I am in the full swing of things and I hope you are too!  I was on a little bit of a time crunch today so my dog (Koa), a lab mix and I hit the Carolina Beach State Park where I focused my attention on all the broken glass.  In the end I filled up a gallon jug with broken glass and believe there is plenty more.  I will continue to try and fill atleast one gallon of broken glass each time I go to the State Park.  I also found lots of old crushed cans and some plastic bottles.  About 90% of what I collected today was sorted for recycling.  For all you parents out there I did find an old cassette tape probably New Kids on the Block, unfortunately it was too faded and we will never know.  I hope your all out there giving it your all and Thanks again!  Kevin

90 Days to Earth 09 Earth Day

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

Well it’s day 4 and on average I have collected 2 grocery bags worth of trash each day.  Some of the most interesting things I have collected are a diaper next to the river, 100’s of pieces of glass from the Carolina Beach state park, and about 25 plastic bottles.  The most heart breaking piece of pollution I continue to collect each day is hundreds of yards of fishing line.  I have to rip fishing line from tree branches, drift wood, and rocks all along the cape fear river and I haven’t even come close to putting a dent in it.  I have found that much if this line is connected to hooks so if you find fishing line please be carefull of the hooks.  We continue to get sign ups each day so please continue to do your good work and PROTECT THIS COAST AS IT HOSTS! Happy New Year!

Thursday, January 15th, 2009

We  just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year!  We hope you all had a great holiday and are having a wonderful start to 2009.

We have been working hard to get things ready for the 09 season.  The web-site is changing a little, with new pictures and information on our New Kiteboarding School.  We will soon be posting our charity surf camp schedule as that comes together.  We are also in the process of finalizing our Spring Break Classes.  Last year we had a very successful weeklong  Spring Break surf class, so have decided to add a couple more options. We want to accomodate all those who would like to get a head start on summer by learning to surf early.  The on-line store should be up soon with lots of incredible Indo Jax surf and kiteboard apparel.  We also have a couple new bio’s up of our new staff.  Stay tuned for all the new postings on these exciting new additions to the Indo Jax Program.   We are growing!

Again, we would like to say Happy New Year!  We look forward to seeing everyone this Spring and Summer out in the water.
