Just wanted to say a quick Happy Halloween to all our campers and future campers out there.  Please be safe and have a great weekend.  Congratulations to Liz Hauser last weekend getting second in the team competition at the Clean Water Classic for Aussi Island Girls. Also great Job to Brendan Benett in the guppies division.  Both are team riders for Indo Jax.   The Clean Water Classic was put on by the Cape Fear chapter of Surfrider.  If you are interested in being a team rider please contact us.

Welcome to our first ever Blog! We promise to update it often so keep checking back.  Jack and Kevin want to start off by thanking our employees and volunteers for such a successful summer.  This was our first year and we couldn’t be more pleased by your positive attitudes, hard work, and support for our motto “We’re nothing if we don’t give back!”   We feel our charity work was unprecedented! The response from those who helped was so heart warming, that we are planning even more charity for the 2009 season.  Please check back for more updates on that topic.

We also want to thank our customers who came out to a first year program and had the courage to take on a new endeavor and learn to ride the North Carolina surf.  If anyone thought there was no surf in NC, they quickly learned that we have some of the best surf in NC.  Thank you!!

Our location in Carolina Beach was absolutely perfect, with beautiful sand, great waves, and very little crowds.   It allowed us to flourish as a start up company.  We are stoked that nearly every group class filled to capacity.  In addition, we have done literally hundreds of private lessons.

We want everyone to know that although our group classes have finished for the season, we are still going strong with private lessons.  We have stockpiled a bunch of wetsuits and had a generous donation of wetsuits from Sam Stevenson and Tim Moss. For the most part, we are able to provide wetsuits for our off-season private surf lessons.  We have had lessons nearly everyday in September and October, so don’t let the cooler weather deter you from calling us.

Our proudest moments of the summer came with our impressive and we think unprecedented charity work.  We gave FIVE free surf camp weeks to various charities including children infected with HIV, AD/HD, autism, and cerebral palsy.  We donated equipment and manpower to Surfer’s Healing, Life Rolls On, and other Charity surf events, and sponsored and supported charities to the tune of over $5000.  In addition we donated introductory surf lessons to something like 160 people for the Carolina Beach Parks and Recreation Department.  I doubt there is another surf school on the planet that gave back the way we did.  And for all those who volunteered for these events Thank you so much!!

Finally, we would like to thank one special surf student we had this summer.  Sam Stevenson took one of our weeklong surf camps.  He liked it so much that he took another week.  After that he came by everyday to surf with us and more importantly to volunteer his help.  He helped us haul boards, get rash guards, and put up the tent.  As he gained experienced he began to help us in the water.  He helped people get back on their boards and helped them paddle back out to the waves.  He even spent the day helping us at the Surfer’s Healing event.  Sam, you have a big heart and are a true friend.  We can’t wait to get you down to the beach permanently.

Again, welcome to the Indo Jax Blog.  We promise to keep this updated, so check back whenever you get the chance.

Thanks again,
Jack and Kevin
